November has had its ups and downs, yet we have much to be grateful for. I am disappointed that we had to cancel the Event "It’s Fall Y’all." We worked so hard to make it happen. I am so grateful to Stephanie Fitzharris for heading the fundraising event and promoting it over and over, and Krista Spurgeon for her technology skills in scheduling the volunteers and time slots. Geoff constructed the zucchini race ramp. (I am sure he had a hand in the IT as well.) Then thank you to all the gardeners who made soups and other goodies and were ready to be on hand at the event. I am also disappointed that our speakers didn’t have a chance to impart their knowledge. So many comments I have heard are centered around the classes that we offer and how grateful they are that we do them. I am also grateful to Bobby Starr for his offering to be a part of our event entertainment.
We promoted the event with flyers put up at various businesses, and I was interviewed on KCYL by Angel Garcia. The Lampasas Dispatch also had an article in their paper the week before the event. It was so good that I used it for our Radiogram ad.
Besides the event, I sent out around 150 fundraising letters which garnered $3,550 to date! I hope to receive more donations from those that said they wanted to donate. This is something to be grateful for, for sure!
We did not get the Rosendin Foundation grant of $10,000 that I wrote to get a large water collection system. I’m giving Renee a copy of their letter.
With the last couple of rains, both rain barrels are FULL! Many thanks to Zalena, Mabel, and others who worked to rid the garden beds and walkways of grass. Mabel brought out her weed eater and whacked the grasses around the fence line. Jim and I painted the cans and labeled them so they are more distinguishable as to their content.
The garden seems to have survived the hailstorm we had on Friday. The veggies are growing, and the gardeners are out gathering their bounty. Many of us have started to cover our beds in preparation for the close-to-freezing weather.
If we can get fruit trees donated, this is a good time to be planting them.
