The Open House held on Saturday, April 17, was a grand success despite chilly weather conditions. Our gardeners and volunteers visited with our guests to show off their raised beds. Dusty Dreker served his wonderful smoked pork sliders in addition to servings of chips, home-baked cookies, and bottled water. Police Chief Sammy Bailey educated the crowd on safety, de-escalation tactics, self-defense, and how to safely store gardening tools. Sam Luscombe spoke about the importance of native plants in attracting pollinators. Daniel Hodges spoke about native birds as important pollinators. Clayton Tucker spoke about bees. All of these topics fall under the umbrella of the importance of the community garden and the benefits of nature to our well-being. Last, but not least, the winner of the drawing for the Yeti is Molly Lesley of Udderly Creative.
The Friday, April 23 edition of the Lampasas Dispatch Record includes an article about our event on page 2. (See the News page for content of the article.) Janet Crozier was interviewed on the Lampasas Radio show the morning of April 16 well.
LCRA declined our application for a grant... and awarded us a donation of $4,330 instead. We have the funds to get our shed!
